Actually the car is still sitting in the same state
But I haven't changed my mind about the swap - none of the engines that I liked for this car would be able to fit without cutting the engine bay, so I'm going to put the original engine back in. Usually someone wants to do a swap because the original engine is bad, but mine is actually fine. I just wanted to make a hot rod but it didn't work out the way I wanted. After everything I've learned, these would be my choices if things were a little bit different: If I didn't mind going outside of MB, a pushrod V8 would be the way to go. Quick google search shows that a SBC is narrow enough. If I didn't mind cutting the car, the m117 could fit, but it would take major modification to the frame rails, which would be a can of worms. I think an M116 would fit with only minor notching of the rails, and/or low profile exhaust manifolds, but the 4.2 isn't that exciting. It's a back-burner project. Maybe by the time I get around to it, electric motors will be cheap and I can just put one of those in...
