anyone use coil spring shims
I noticed on fastlane they have rear coil spring shims. Are these to help prop up a sagging rear end. Mine is low and I've already done the rear subframe mounts. New springs are a tad pricey and used ones are as old and likely tired as what I have. Suggestions?

I believe that the "problem" is as much tied to the newer gas pressure shocks as "warn" springs. Why would the rear springs ware out faster than the front springs? I replaced the rubber spring pads and that helped a little. My focus is why does the front of the car appear to be too high.

But the shocks I have are tired. (next job) Besides shock control the acceleration of the suspension, the springs carry the load. Thats why I suspect them. I'm going to take some measurements to see how far the ride heights are off.

I asked a similar question some time ago. One of the Pro's told me the shims are used at the factory during initial set-up. I have however used spring shims on my pick-up to gain ground clearance. the 2" blocks in the rear were no problem but the spring pads up front altered my front end geometry. My front wheels looked like a "V" I had to have a shop put in some new/different eccentrics (old ones were out of range) and re align.

After my last post I pulled out the normally useless Haynes. To my surprise, it covers the subject fairly well giving a description of points to measure to on the trailing arms and control arms to get reference heights. They also discuss to a lesser degree the use of the shims to adjust the height measurements. Nowhere do they show proper installation, however I'm sure I can figure that part out without giving myself a headache. Now that the Masters is over life can resume and I can slide under the car to take said measurements.
keep you posted. Mark |

Will these also change the lean in/out of the rear tire?

Rackne - I think so, it appears to be the only way to adjust for that.
I did the measuring last night and found the front to be in spec be the rears look to be about 5/8" low. Now I have numbers but do the shims add to the rubber seat already there or do I replace the current seat with the new shims? If its a replacement thing, I'll need to know the thickness of the current seat. Am I on the right track...no pun intended. Mark |
