There's a lot of crap being stated. European model 500SL, parts not available in the united states? only one or two in the US.
Mistaking the spare wheel well for the gas tank!!! Fuel pump looks like some aftermarket set up. Also, if it's an 80, it's probably a 450SL

Whew...I am not the only one who noticed that....I was venting to my friend while watching it....and the gas tank....
For 60k and three months, you could have done a beautiful restoration....I would have contacted Mercedes classic center, called Mercedes got a complete new drive line....tell them who's car you are restoring....could have made it into an amazing restoration... OMG that interior....and the dash....why did he do a color change with the interior, and paint everything black to brown....he wanted him to use hemp....all the door cards and seats where already cloth, why didn't he contact one of the places that does factory seat skins....tell them what he wanted, had them done....embroider them with some also logo's....source hemp loop carpet... And he couldn't start it in the trailer, shouldn't take three tries....my old tired diesel starts faster.... Okay, this is why I shouldn't have watched it.....made me upset, and boiled my blood.... Shall we all go protest, that he never touch another Mercedes ![]()

Did they find anything stashed in the bumpers? Obviously didn't look up in the wheel wells.
Hmmmm. Rings and valve seals are fresh, why is it still smoking. Oh, never mind, let's go eat. ![]()

I watched it...those guys are total boobs but they make me smile with the dumb $hit they say and do, especially the huge fool that said that the car was rare. LOL I think R107s euros were the most imported MB cars of the 80s !
I didn't see it done though...sounds like I'm glad I didn't ! Bob must be rolling in his grave. And poor Ziggy got ripped off for 60K large apparently. I did see what the Count did to his Dad's 500SEL 'Hammer' (as he called it, yeah right)...electric blue with all that chrome bling. I think old HWA would shed a tear if he saw it. |

I came to the conclusion, that the guy didn't really know who Bob Marley was.....
The after product reminded me of something you would see a 90's rapper driving....

I am not sure I want to see the "finished" car... sounds very disappointing.

I thought it looked fine. The leather/Hemp combo seats was quite tasteful too( the original color was better though) . The only things I didnt like were the Hemp dash and the badging. "Legend" may have had a meaning behind it but it still looks gross.

I didn't think it looked bad, aside from the chrome fender arches and wheels that reminded me of my Jeep's full-size spare (that I got for like $10 to replace the donut).
I did think it was a bunch of bull they pulled the Euro excuse. Sure, the bumpers, headlights, manual HVAC etc are different but there's no way that I can imagine a Euro SL has a different tank, pump etc from a US one, unless DOT regulations were somehow different and forced a change? As far as the tank vs spare wheel well - I'll blame the cameraman on that one. I doubt they took the tank out and boiled it and didn't know where it was. In the end, they did exactly what the customer wanted. That's the most critical thing in their line of business. The customer didn't want stock, he didn't want a restoration - he wanted a resto-mod. Everyone has different tastes (otherwise we'd all be driving the same car in the same color with the same tires at the same speed). You can't fault them for doing exactly what their customer wanted. I can assure you Ziggy Marley didn't care if it cost $60k and he could have paid less elsewhere. He got what he wanted, he loved it, and it reminded him of his dad. To him, it's priceless. I don't know if you guys have watched the show before, but they do what the customer wants - not what they want. They even did a Chevy wagon in pink that they would otherwise never have done in pink. In the end, the customer always loves what they did, even if someone like myself does not. Would I personally want flames on my vehicle? No way, but a lot of their customers DO. Would I want a hemp interior? No, but Ziggy specifically asked for it. Would I want "LEGEND" on my car? No, but maybe if it were significant to me like it was to him I would. To each his own. I enjoyed it, aside from the "This is a super rare Euro and parts are totally different everywhere!" BS.
