W108 vacuum door lock clip picture HELP
Hello all,
1972 280se 4.5 Note my picture its the lock mechanism on passenger front door. Long rod coming up from bottom is coming from vacuum actuator. My problem is the clip/spring at the attaching point. Mine is broke? It is the rounded spring on left side and the piece hanging. round spring on right side appears ok and completely separate from issue?? Was it all one clip/spring(the left piece and dangling piece) or is dangling part separate broke spring/clip?? Part number? Where to find? Problem is when locking from drivers side you have to push down on passenger lock to get it to go down. Actuator works fine both directions. its like this spring thing enables it be pulled up while locked yet should hold it in the upper slide area while being locked with vacuum . Unlocks fine always Locks fine 1 out of 20. I believe it has to do with being able to unlock from the inside. Anyways I have learned so much from you guys. Any help would be appreciated. |

are you sure the lines on the vacuum pod are connected correctly?
I can check my manual tonight , but it appears the rods look OK, the spring things look suspect however BTW - lovely car !! ( and the little one too!)

yes thank you.
The vacuum actuator works perfect its just that broke spring/clip doesn't allow push lock rod above to catch every time and go down it kind of slips and stays in place. you have to manually push it down while locking. Unlocks every time because then you are at the top of that slide. If you look at first picture. See how the bottom rod and washers are at the top of the slide(groove/cutout). As actuator locks and actuator rod pulls down, the upper rod ( door lock knob) will most likely not catch and be pulled down bc of broke clip. I was going to pull off one of back door panels and look but i figured they were probably different since they are towards front of the door . Thanks for looking Yea my little girl wouldn't get out of the way when i was trying to take some pixs. She thinks she's a movie star lol |

That busted spring is just one of the reasons I converted my 450SEL to electrics. I very much doubt you'd want to follow suit since your car is very nice while mine just makes it to work.
It looks exactly like the one on my W116 and may even be the same on the W114, you might want to check out a local wrecking yard. Michael

I've also since noticed that I can push down drivers side lock from inside with door open. So something is wrong there I gather bc you shouldn't be able to lock keys in. From what I understand you should have to lock it from outside with the key or inside with door shut. Hmm
Just great bc I was locking car with drivers door open and reaching over pushing down passenger lock and closing drivers door Any more thoughts appreciated I guess I'm going to have to tear into drivers side and look at what's broke in there :-) |

The spring is symmetrical, that is, the missing right side should look exactly like the left side. Michael

well I looked, and could nto tell exactly what you needed from my parts boxes, if we had a picture I could look through my varrious clips and such.. I looked also in my manual for the vacuum set up in hopes to see a picture of the latch but that was a dead end as well. If you get a side off that is working perhaps you can get an idea, although it would have to be a back door, the drivers side is different
poke around here CENTRAL LOCKING MECHANISM it may help. Not in English unfortunately ,well some of it is.. EPC part number for spring clip is 1159940160 but not sure that is what you need .

Well thanks meltedpanda for checking. That was very nice. This photo is the closest thing i have found to looking close to the same type of spring perhaps. Check it out.

In his first pic, there is a looped spring on the left side, from the hole to the post formed by the end of the rod. There should be an identical spring on the right. Based on the position in pic 1, and if both springs where there, activating the vacuum locks would move the rod down and since the springs are just enough stronger than the action of the lock, it will operate the lock. Michael

They do look identical but aren't, the hook that goes in the hole on the left is bent mirror image from the one on the right.
I've learned that I might be wrong. Dang. Michael
