I've never seen a fintail station wagon... makes you wonder what was the cause of death for each of these cars.

It is depressing...

And look at all those usable looking panels in there...probably plenty of life left in many parts...

Yes and no. A lot appear to be rusty or wrecked, and they appear to be parting them. As long as their usable parts go on to save other benzes I am okay with it. If you had pictures of those cars crushed, unparted, I may cry lol.

If you look closely you'll see that the cars aren't actually stacked on each other, but rather are on racks.

If that wagon is rusty beyond saving (doesn't look like it), the "wagon" portion can indeed be grafted onto a standard 4 door, as this is what they were when they were sent off to the coachbuilder to be converted into wagons.
