1973 Mercedes 280 Dash speaker cover
Looking for a replacement dash speaker cover. It snaps into the dash and can easily be lifted out to expose the speaker. It's 11x5 inches perforated metal plate and it's wrapped in a blue preforated vinyl. It has become cracked and dired. I'd rather not cover in a solid vinyl (there is no speaker in the dash, they are located on the side panels). If anyone knows where I candfind this part or the material I would be grateful. I've seareched all over with no luck
Thanks Dave 114.060-12-005138. vehicle info for reference . I attached a photo |

I have a big hole where mine should be. With a stuffed white duck sitting in it.
When I got the car it came with a metal curved thingy with no covering that I've never got around to doing anything with. I'm not even positive it's the right piece for the car.

Hey dave,
Contact the mb classic center and give him your vin #, Jon can give you the exact part # you are looking for. Most likely he can order you the piece as well. There is also a German website which sells all these parts, maybe someone will chime in. Good for diagrams, but I find it much easier to deal with the classic center. That goes for you too wolf, if you get tired of seein that white duck staring back at you.

Hey, I like my duck. If you squeeze it's tummy it says "Aflac.. AFLAC!"

Thanks for the tip on the Classic web site. I contacted them and had a response in a day. Unfortunately that part has not been available for the past 10 years. I can either paint it or have it redone by an auto upholstery shop. I may spend the time to refurbish and re-glue

On my '72 250 many years ago, I removed the shriveled vinyl from the metal plate, and recovered with a black (my dash was black) adhesive-backed burlap cloth sold as shelf-covering. Wrapped the edges round/under the metal plate so it looked good. Sun eventually faded it so it looked vintage! Had no speaker under there, otherwise I might have had to punch alot of tiny holes or use unbacked burlap.
Happy Motoring, Mark

Upgrading Stereo/Speakers
Opening this older posting to see if anyone knows how to remove the dash speaker cover pictured in the original post. I have a 1973, 280 with the exact speaker cover but can't seem to figure out how to remove it as I would hate to destroy it.
No screws visible anywhere so am hoping someone knows if it just pops up & out or any order to avoid breaking (whatever)? Thanks in advance for your time! Bill (Spokane, WA) <>< |

I know where there are two 115's in a wrecking yard. Both have rotten speaker covers on the dash. One of them has a speaker under it so maybe I can get some pics of it as well.
I will make it there this weekend and remove one to see how it is held in. Since they are trash anyway I don't mind tearing into them. Don't expect anything out of me until Saturday at least, so if someone else wants to chime in then please feel free to do so. |

The speaker cover is held in with spring clips--if you carefully insert a three-inch scraper into the seam you should be able to pop it out

That was on the 114. A 115 nearby had the speaker cover, which was rectangle but had rounded corners and not squared off ones, held down by a phillips head in each corner. |

114 and 115 have different speaker covers. I have no idea why. The 114 cover is impossible to find in good condition. If you have kick panel speakers, please just cover the panel in vinyl and be happy that you have that as an option!
