I own an early 73 280CE and it is stock to the bone and it has the white steering wheel....Please restore that steering wheel or just clean it up but don't change it to a black one. It blends into that interior perfectly. Good luck !!

You have a 280CE? How cool, where are you located? I know that there aren't many in the US.

Yes I got very lucky about 5 years ago and bought it from the deceased original owners son. I flew down to Atlanta , Ga. and bought it and drove it home to New York. I've been in love with it ever since.

And it looks like you have two of them.....I know that there was a green one in Wisconsin with a 5 speed in it a few years ago. It was for sale then so it must be out here somewhere.......

Wasn't there a green 250CE with a 5 speed that was in the star a few years ago? A 280CE with a 5 speed would make me happy. I would then sell my E420 and make it my daily driver.

The filter on the 280SL is also conical and sets ahead of the left fender. It looks alot like yours. This is why I was asking if they are in fact the same or not. I tried once to mount a 280SL filter on my 280E, but there just wasn't enough room. This type of air filter really keeps the engine-compartment clutter down to a minimum.

When I noticed that certain MB's in the 280 class have white steering wheels, white interiors and in some cases white tops for that two-tone look, I really began to think. My experience has been with the usual tan, charcoal-black, blue etc.. Was the factory stretching the envelope to encourage sales or were owners able to order their cars at that time in a way that was not available in previous years?
Your 250ce looks like it has plenty of potential which is what I enjoy about my 280se-enjoying taking apart a hand-built automobile and putting it back together again.

My 250CE needs a lot of help, it's in the UK and has been neglected for some time. Here are some pictures of it from around 1997 when I was driving it.

This is what it looks like now. It's very sad, I haven't driven it in 8 years.

Today, I tried to get the car started. Again, I have another dead fuel pump and I cant hear the buzz that I expect to hear from the injectors when the car is turned on.

Because when cranking the engine, I could not see any oil pressure, I pulled off the valve cover and poured a quart of oil over the cams.

The next step was to pin the distributor and re-attached the green wire from the distributor to the ICU. It appears that the original wire was too short, so I bought some more and a female connector and wired it out. I now get spark from the ignition system but no fuel.

I was able to get the car to fire using carb cleaner but not on it's own fuel source. Again I ran my trusty 7psi universal fuel pump to a can of gas in an effort to run it through the fuel lines...... no such luck..

The fuel is getting through as we disconnected both of the lines from the fuel pressure regulator whch wept fuel. I suspect that the injectors are not firing but i'm not sure how to test these and will need to do some reading.

I did get the blue 6.9 running after some effort because someone is interested in buying it.

On the 6.3. It looks like it will need a new fuel pump or I need to find someone who can rebuild the old one.

The fuel pump itself turns but not qickly enough, I had a spare that I found at a junk yard but that was in worse shape then the one on the car once we pulled it off.
