Just received the timing chain crimper back from its x-country trip (NH > CA). It visited dieseldiehard and came back well relaxed from the warmer climate. If everyone's rental experiences go as smoothly as this one did we should have alot of happy forum members. It is really too bad the postage w/insurance drives the cost up. In the future, I am going to try to barter first and charge the $10 only if there is nothing to barter for. Thanks "dieseldiehard" and Brian for getting this program off the ground.
Steve

Wow!! You work quickly. I am not in any rush by the way. How were the valves ? Did they need adjusting ?

How about a vacuum tester? Bolt puller?

Sure could use a vacuum tester...probably only need to use it one time if you replace the bad lines, pricy for a single use item. What about a Mercedes bolt puller like the one they use on the rear end parts?

Anyone have a Mercedes bearing puller?

I could use a bearing puller like the Mercedes tool used to pull out the trailing arm bushings. Anyone have one of those? Perhaps a torque wrench?

I'll put my Mityvac in the rental program for you.

The benefit is that its weight is very low so the shipping cost will be very reasonable.

Have you checked auto part stores?
AutoZone, Discount Auto, Pep Boys?

In fact I did ask at Autozone. The sales guy didn't know what I was talking about. In general, I haven't had good luck getting anything more Benz-specific than metric wrenches at these places.

I don't have a big problem purchasing one, but it's the same old story. I hate to throw down $50 for a pretty specialized tool that I don't expect to need very often.

If no one has one, I'll buy one and put in the rental pool.

I could use this tool too...

Compression Tester Wanted

Hello,

I am looking to rent a compression tester for my 77 240D. I emailed and messaged Mattdave (the list said he had one to rent), but got no response. Anyone have one to rent?

Thanks,
Glenn
