86 300E driver side window won't roll down
86 300E driver side window won't roll down. It was working fine 2 days ago. The other 3 windows roll down/up with no problems. I've replaced the switch with a new one and I've changed the fuse (G & H) with a new one.
When I press the switch while my door is open, the lights will dim...I assume that means the switch is making contact and "doing its job". What else do I need to check? I have an extra whole power window assembly from the front passenger side (got it from a junkyard about a little over a year ago). Would I be able to use just the motor and the regulator and just replace the one on the driver's side? (if it's the motor and/or regulator?) Thanks in advance, jrmd01@yahoo.com

The window regulator or the motor is gone...
The motor and the regulator are NOT interchangeable to the paseenger's. The good thing is...the motor and the regulator come separate.
You can try to un-freeze the window by closing the door with the switch press down. Sometimes that action will release the window. Either way, it will just buy you time until you get new parts. Go under Fastlane on top of this page and check the cost. Good Luck! ![]()

Are parts interchangeable?
I tried closing the door while pressing the switch....nothing. The good thing is that the windown is fully closed.
Anyway I agree that it might be the motor becasuse I don't hear the motor running when I press the switch. I'll check whether or not the motor is getting power. Will a motor from another mercedes (older late 70's 450se) work on the my car (124)? I'll just be taking the motor, not the whole regulator assembly. I guess my question now is...are the power window motors interchangeable between the different models or are they design to fit only a specific model? Any opinions are appreciated. jrmd01@yahoo.com

UPDATE: FIXED!
Just wanted to update this thread just in case someone has a problem similar to mine.
I took off the panel and found a broken plastic piece in the door. I searched this forum regarding this broken part and determined it was the window regulator guide jaw. (about $5.30 from fastlane). Since it was a Sunday I had no choice but to repair the broken piece on my own. I'll buy a new one and replace it later, for now my "McGiver" repaired part will suffice. I tested the power window motor and sure enough it was not working. Since I anticipated this would be the problem, I already bought a used replacement from a fellow mercedesshop.com member (Adam). As I was putting everything back together, I decided to grease all joints and moving parts. I have a feeling the regulator guide jaw broke because it was fighting friction. That in turn burned out the window motor. Well, everything is all back together after 2 hours of work and I'm satisfied. Total cost of repair is $60 and 1 can of beer. Oh by the way, while I was searching for help, there was a question about how to remove the regulator with the window stuck all the way in the up position --- I had the same problem. Just remove all the nuts (about 6 10mm nuts) holding the regulator and the motor. Everything will come out easily. Make sure you have someone holding the window cause it'll literally fall down. Good luck. jrmd01@yahoo.com This thread is done...
