Help replacing E-class battery!?
I'm getting a new battery for my '99 E300. Everyone said to get a battery that has provision for the 'vent tube' etc. The problem is that in removing my original battery, I dont see any vent tube of any sort. I'm wondering what it is, and what I need to hook up upon installation of my new battery? Thanks!

Go to an Interstate battery dealer. They make a battery for your car. The replacement battery does not have a vent hole. On my car the vent hole was in the floor and a tube from the OE battery went thru the hole. If you find a Interstate battery distributor you will get the battery cheaper. My battery is a Interstate Megatron Plus MTP-92 850 CCA.

Ok well I"m back. Apparently you DO need or it's highly preferable to have a battery with provision for the vent tube, since ALL batteries, sealed or not, vent hydrogen gas etc. I got the autozone 49D, which is a direct replacement of the stock one, and has the vent tube which I ran thru the grommet in the floor. My stock battery vent tube was missing, thank god it didn't leak acid everywhere. The autozone 49D has a 7 yr warranty and was only $59. Thanks to rick miley pointing out PE Haiges' posts regarding this autozone battery. I reset the code and I'm set for another 5 yrs.

Everything being equal the $59 is a better price than I paided for the Interstate and it is only a 6-year warrenty.
