W140 noise encapsulation below engine
Should I be concerned that my 95 S420 does not have the under engine noise encaplulation panel ?
Prev. owner apparently let it get away ?? or do MB dealer shops often discard them? What is the cost of a new one, and will I really notice any reduction of noise or other benefit? Thanks for any info. DanielW |

In addition to noise reduction (particulary the diesels), the cover provides some aerodynamic improvment and a modest amount of oil pan protection as a plastic skid plate.

DanielW,
On the later w140 class the enscapulation was deleted. The forward panel under the radiator was the installed throughout production. Cost reduction and unneeded air flow management for the U.S. market could be the reason for the delete.
