Window problem: window won't move
My driver's side window on my 98 CLK320 "popped" when I tried to lower it today. The "pop" occurred when it was at the top (rolled up). Now, the window seems to be off the track because the motor works with the up/down switch but the window does not move. In addition, the window moves independently when I push down on the glass and pull up on the glass.
My warranty has run out and I don't have a good enough relationship with the dealer to have it fixed under "goodwill". Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I'm sure I'll have to end up removing the door panels. If someone can help me with that or has any other advice, please let me know. Thanks for the help! |

Pull the door panel and replace the window regulator. It is rivoted in so you will have to be ready to deal with that before disassembly.
I suppose a exploratory would be justified before ordering the part but the 210 chassis is notorious for defective window regulators. The motors fail also but from your description it sure sounds like the cable driven regulator.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't been able to work on the car since it's been raining the last 2 days.
When I press the up/down switch, I can hear the motor running and can hear something go up and down inside the door panel...just not the window. How is the window attached to the track or whatever it is that moves it up and down. Is that the regulator? How hard is it to replace that? Also, if anyone can give me directions on removing the door panels, that would be great. Thanks again. J Last edited by qb320; 12-25-2003 at 06:31 PM. |
