ABS activates right before car stops
I am speaking of my father's 1987 300E. When stopping softly, ABS comes on. This is RIGHT before the car stops moving. It happens probably around 75% of the time. It does happen sometimes under hard braking, but not hard enough that the wheels would lock. The light will sometimes come on after making a stop when it does that, but most of the time the "antilock" lock doesn't come on.
Thanks David

How old is the OVP relay? If ancient, it may be doing something funny.
Otherwise, you have a wheel sensor bad or a brake locking up form dirty calipers or something. Tires different sizes can do this too, so can a low tire. Peter

wheel speed sensor
This is almost always a bad front wheel speed sensor (although it could be the rear).
Bring it to your mechanic asap. You have a real safety issue. In a panic stop, the stopping distance will be extended further than needed due to unnecessary ABS activation. It's about $150 for parts and labor for a front wheel speed sensor.
