MB won’t sell me a new bearing for my air pump!
As I described in this thread Need help finding out size of, or id number of bearing in air pump
I have for the time being removed the air pump on my E280. MB wont sell me a new bearing but wants me to buy the whole pulley including the bearing. The catch is that the unit costs app. 570$ witch to me seems ridiculous! Does any one know how to get hold of this bearing? Last edited by johan6504; 12-12-2003 at 07:44 AM. |

I have tried two stores like the one you suggests, the answer is the same, "this is a MB only bearing, we can not sell it to you". The answer from MB, we do not sell this separately.
I will send a question to awbearings as well. |

This company, and at least one other I've read about, remanufacture A.I.R. pumps. I don't recall their prices but they're certainly much better than the dealer. They may even sell you a bearing separately.

slowly chasing this out
There are 6 of these brgs available in Europe which is based on information provided by our local INA rep. I'm now trying to find who the distributor is for your area. For the UK it is:
http://www.ina.co.uk/ Not sure how hard it is to get brgs from the UK to Sweden. You may just be able to get them by contacting one of the companies on the above listed site. I have put the question to the INA rep on how to go about getting these brgs in Europe. More to come.

Try this:
Phone number for INA in Sweden is +46 8 595 109 00. The email contact is info@ina.se They will need the number off of the bearing. Good luck - let us know if they will sell you one or not.

Update?
Hi,
I am in the same predicament, didnt know if there was an update on locating the bearing. My pump seems to be fine and just the bearing needs to be replaced. Seems insane to me to have to pay $400 when I only need the bearing. Any input you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I work for a bearing manufacturer. If I can get the number off the bearing and the EXACT dimensions, perhaps I can help. ID, OD, width, and whether it's sealed or not.
You may also try looking for a bearing supply house in your area. We have a couple in Detroit, except they're all captive NTN facilities.

I suggest finding a pump at a salvage yard.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. The numbers from the bearing are: "L32/52 2R5 AH03" In researchin, it looks like the diameter is 32mm inner, 52mm outer, and 18mm tall. If I locate a pump from a salvage yard, won't the same thing happen in the near future? Id feel better with a new bearing. Looks like some have removed the pump with no reprocussions. Does this still hold true? Thanks again!
