John:
I don't think you'll be wanting to put an 8V seat into your 16V. I used to have a 1984 190E 2.3-8V with FULL compliment of AMG enhancements. Those stock seats couldn't hold my butt in place if I had myself "glued" in place. I therefore, installed a set of Recaro seats -- that did the trick. Your best bet is to either: (a) find a set of replacement 16V seats (ALL 16V models came with black interior; '86 & '87), or (b) purchase a set of Recaros. Good luck! Brian |

There are aftermarket companies that offer covers for the seat. They will have to be installed in the place of the existing covering. When done correctly, it looks like new. I have done a few and it is a great outcome!!

John:
It's been about 8 years since I did that project, and I purchased the seats from a friend. If you were to do that same Recaro job today, I'd say you're looking at: [1] $350 - $400 per seat [2] $80 per adapter bracket [3] $50 per seat installation Don't forget, you'd lose your power headrest height adjust and power recline. No biggie, they just become a manual job (how often do you do those adjustments anyways?). The other alternative is to go with Benzmac's suggestion, tho' I don't know how much that would cost. Materials would probably be (relatively) inexpensive, but the labor to install (almost a re-upholster job?) might be quite high. Hope this helps. Brian |
