Welcome aboard. Pull the head and based on your mileage, get the head reworked and a new head gasket. Best case is yes a head gasket may resolve your issue. You will not know until you get the head off.

Lightbulb Could be the Tranny cooler

Hey before you assume the worst, is the car an automatic? I have seen a tranny cooler leak into the radiator and appear to be a bad head gasket. Are you seeing any other signs of head gasket problems?, such as water or white smoke from the tail pipe? Poor idling or runablity problems? Just a thought.

Check the rear, curbside corner of the engine for an oil leak. It will show up on the garage floor as well.

Open the coolant reservoir and check for engine oil. It's easily distinguished from transmission fluid.

If either one of these conditions are present, you likely need to have the head gasket replaced.
