Prestige Magazine
Well,Iwant to ad a POSITIVE note to this thread! We should all be happy that anyone has taken the TIME and MONEY to even try to start a magazine for our beloved autos!
Lets face it we need a good magazine for mercedes benz! Starting a new magazine is not a cheap or easy venture. we should be supporting these guys! I would personally like to see more of a vintage Mercedes magazine, but would be happy to see anything!

G.L.,
Your copy left this morning, be on the look out for it soon. You should also be able to see it at Barnes & Noble in your area. Brian Minson Publisher/Editor Prestige Magazine http://www.benzmag.com |

Most of the Barnes & Noble, Booksamillion, Hastings have copies of the magazine. The magazine went on sale two weeks ago (some stores this past Friday).
If you local B&N doesn't have a copy of the magazine, ask to see whether we are listing in their directory of publications. This is a three-ring binder with green pages. If we are listed in their directory they carry us. We are also available at about 800 mom & pop bookstores/newsstands. I can't list them all, but if you ask your favorite shop about us, you can inform them that our national distributor is Warner International Periodical Services. They should be able to order copies via WIPS for you. Thanks, Brian Minson Publisher Prestige Magazine http://www.benzmag.com |

My sister got me a copy of Mercedes Classic, I belive that's what it's called. Neat magazine by the way. It is only released quarterly. I am looking forward to Prestige though, it sounds interesting.
Thanks David

Benzo?
Whatever happened to Benzo? I saw one issue at the local shop and that was it. Maybe T&A doesn't sell cars anymore?

I subscribed to Benzo, and it hasn't been worth the money.
Lots of fluff, very little info on the cars. I'm looking forward to subscribing to Prestige Magazine. I'm sort of hopeful that it will be like Mercedes Enthusisast. It has lots of articles on older cars, which I find interesting because I can afford them.

Prestige mag
Mr. Minson,
When I read your announcement about your new MB related magazine, I thought of the magazine "9". And sure enough, a few posts later, you tell us that you are also responsible for that one. I paged through one of the early issues of "9" and I must say it was absolutely awful. Muddy colors on the cover. Amateurish articles within. Much to my amazement I still see it at Barnes & Noble but I don't bother to read it, even free. You had better do a whole lot better job with your MB mag or it will tank in no time. I'll stick with Mercedes Enthusiast and The Star, I think.

?
Hi Brian (and everyone here on this post)-
Maybe you would get a better response on the open discussion forum section of this website, instead of here in the tech section. That is what I was informed of when I established a poll to find interest in a new Mercedes Car Club...actually that was the first reply I received (to post it in open discussion). Now http://www.MercedesCarClub.org is alive and well, and accepting new members for free. This is a new site with DIY'ers in mind. Owned and operated by a DIY'er and seeking interaction from other DIY'ers as well....fueled by the love of a running Mercedes-Benz along with mere frustration and disappointment from the local dealer explaining to me that the shop manual is not available any longer, and the MB CD set is "not all that"...it is better than not having it, but I agree with the dealer. While I promote FastLane and MercedesShop.com for parts and technical help and diagnostics, I certainly discovered a need for a do it yourself program specifically designed for us - independent MB owners that are able and willing to fix or repair daily (sounds like a Ford insult, I know ) if necessary. I certainly understand how difficult a new project can be, and it looks like you have received plenty of feedback within this tech section...and I must agree with others as to the relation with your website name versus your magazine. Even the meaning of the name "Prestige" does not match your website. Prestige: earned fame and respect - source - Webster's New World Pocket Dictionary I'm simply pointing out the obvious to you before the masses do...just like the others here have done. Constructive criticism is very valuable, especially in business, as we all know. I wish you the best, and hope life is going your way.

This new magazine reminds me of a publication that I read while traveling in Kansas, called "Pitch Weekly"....exact same paper, photos and quality...they might have a website by now, but that's been over a year ago now . The real question is why does this magazine exist at all? Bottom line is money...selling advertisements and collecting the revenue...business 101, but making money from a name reminds me of the Titanic Museum Tour (on tour near you)....someone is making lots of money from all thoes that lost their lives to a very tragic death.

Brian,
Thanks for sending my magazine. I see the problem you have with 4 color. I feel that with this problem, the magazine should be posponed until this was fixed. In other words, issue two should not have went to press in its present state. By putting this on the newstands you give an impression of what will follow in your magazine. The cover should be heavier and the paper you use should be changed. I see an appearance of the photocopy look in the pages. The articles on the cars were sketchy and the magazine contained too high of a quantity of ads. I can certainly understand that these advertisors might be upset because their ads have no snap due to the newsprint look of the pages. If you want to have this quantity of ads then the publication should be at least double the size. I liked the fact that the autos that were featured stated the problems with the various models. This is something that the consumer would want to know. The advertising on cars for sale was a suprise. I did not know that for only a few issues you would be able to get that many ads. BTW, did issue one look better than issue two? |

i would like to see tech articles, basic maintenance, DIY stuff, recommendations and upgrades for common older cars.
i dont really want to buy a magazine thats all about show and shine. not my scene. not my thing. someone has already said comb through the archives and compile a list of common faults and cures for the various models. i would buy a book on the 124 for fifty bucks if it was thorough. a manual may not point out a problem or a fix. elemental difference. but if you start, by say, doing a DIY article on rear suspensions of all the 5 link cars you get an idea of the type of stuff we (i think i speak for most) want to see. good luck. BTW, saw your magazine only once. will check again more frequently.
