Stereo Stalls Out
I own a 84 300SD with a Sony (non OEM) CD player. It used to be, on occasion, but now consistently, that when I start the car there is either no speaker volume or very low volume coming from the speakers. When the problem just began I noticed that at night as I was parking, when I turned the headlight switch off, no sound would come from the spreakers for about 5 seconds, then they would come back on again. Now, day or night, no sound comes from them, unless I turn on the lights.
Is there a cure for this problem, without purchasing another stereo (OEM)? I'm sure I've read that MB stereo systems are a little peculiar, is there some way to resolve this apparant electical problem? I appreciate this forum, I just became a member but have been reviewing and benfiting from the wisdom, for a few months now.

I had an older Sont CD in my car. Sounded great when it worked, but it would sometime stop working for no apparent reason. I pulled it out about an inch and pushed it back in and it worked fine...for a while. Did this 4 or 5 times and got sick of it. Pulled and gave it to my sister for her 93 Accord. She loves it. I put an Alpine 7894 CD/MP3/XM receiver in and love it. No more intermittent problems for either deck. Go figure.

Sounds like bad wiring to me. Did you install it yourself? If so, I'd go back and check your wiring work. If not, take it to a good stereo shop, and they should be able to diagnose.
