The MB installed cell phone, is it a full 3 watts when the hand held unit is
Plugged into the car? If it is, where is the booster amp? |

I'm guessing, but most hand-held radios (and cell phones, which are nothing but radio transmitters/receivers) have a lower power output when used on their own batteries. The internal battery voltage is less than your car's. When powered from your car (13.8 volts), the power output will typically be higher. No external power amp needed.

When a handheld phone is out of the 3-watt booster kit it is .6 watts. The booster is probably mounted in the trunk near your rear speakers or behind some of the paneling in the trunk. That is where Lincoln, Cadillac, and other factory phone recievers are mounted.

Joe, You get the gold star! It is located in the left side of the trunk under the paneling in most all Mercedes. It does use a booster because of the Gov. limit to .6watts for the handhelds. They don't want any shrunken brains because we are on our phones so much.

Benzmac...the temptation was too much and I couldn't resist....I submit that if you're driving in traffic and you're on your phone....your brain has already shrunken!
Forgive me. |
