On a 1979 450SL I see the ignition timing is TDC, but is the dwell angle adjustable. Vehicle has wheel and transistored (Federal) ignition.
In reading other shop forum articles, I noted an article stating that if the fuel injectors are steel body (which mine are) to replace them unconditionally with updated brass body. This was information on a 1983 500 family vehicle. Thanks in advance this is a great resource, although I have the manuals understanding the information at times in a problem. |

You do not need and can't to my knowledge change the dwell of a transisor ignition system. The fuel injection nozzles should be replaced IF you are having a problem with one or more of them.

Thanks Benzmac, The car does not idle well at all, but above 1500 Rpm it is very smooth.
With timing at TDC its rough at 20 degrees advanced it smooths out. Is it possible poor fuel injectors would create this issue? |
