SLK 230 R170 1998 Turn Signal Not Working
Hi Forum Members
I've just joined hope to contribute in some small way in time. I have an old SLK 230 with an intermittent fault with the turn signal (or 'indicators' in the UK). Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. Currently they are not working. They can sort themselves during a drive, or stop working during a drive so I don't think it's heat related. The warning light to indicate a fault with the bulbs (perhaps) is lit but they are all okay. I've had the car tested and have been told its the headlight light switch through which the wiring passes. The emergency lights work fine. I've had the light switch our and apart (as much as I dare) and also the circuitboard in the control module box but I think this was a red herring as the relay wasn't where I was expecting but inside (under) the main fuse box. The light switch was clean and had no obvious signs of damage, track burn out etc. The relays are clean and appear to be okay. I tested the dedicated relay and it works fine. The fuses are all okay. So my question is could the problem now be anything else other than the light switch assembly, like the turn signal stalk? I've read that other owners have had dry joint issues and didn't know if it was worth my while going down that route before just buying a replacement switch - which may or may not work?! Any advice gratefully received. Thanks Nigel |

Did you ever manage to fix?
We have the same issue with our 2001 SLK 230 - so looking for help. I have cleaned all contacts in rear light clusters and all relays seem fine. We have noticed that the indicators stop working if the car has been sat in the sunshine !
