Rear End Noise

I had a rear end rotational noise that was there at any speed, but did not go away at all unless making a sharp left turn.

Turned out to be a bad left rear wheel bearing. For those of you with a similar rotational grinding like sound at any speed that goes away when turning left, its the left rear wheel bearing. If it goes away when turning right, it would be the right rear bearing.

Just thought I would share this as my car is dead quiet now with the new bearing in place. Finally my car is in tip top mechnical shape save for the rear shocks.

wheel bearing for w124

How much should it cost per side for the wheel bearing kit and labor to install it?

How about if you already ripped the subframe apart and gave it to the mechanic since that job requires special tools?

Thanks,

Austin

It's amazing how problems happen in waves around here (ex: one person has a problem,,,, Everyone has the same problem) Must be the weather!..... El Ninyo!!!
It just so happens i had my right rear bearing replaced a month ago. The darn thing locked up split in half and was spinning in the hub!! Ill post some pics. Anyway, the job costed me $50 for the bearing and $120 for the install. Not too bad for a 3.8 hour job.

My mech charged me $378, but my insurance company payed for it.

The old bearing was frozen, and a ***** to get out. took him a few extra hours just to get it out. The bearing finally came out and pretty much disintegrated in his hands.

He showed it to me, and it was in shambles.

I would have happily paid for it myself, but since the insurance payed, I'm even happier.

Well to put a long story short, My father told the insurance company about the noise after the car was fixed. so they just said ok, we'll pay for it. Of course it helps that my father is friends with the adjuster.

Pics are in open discussion under Here are the pics thread...

Just so you won't be dissappointed.....

A little old lady goes to the doctor and says, Doctor I have this problem with gas, but it really doesn't bother me too much. They never smell and are always silent. As a matter of fact, I've farted at least 20 times since I've been here in our office. I'll bet, you didn't know I was farting because they don't smell and are silent

The doctor says, I see..... Take these pills and come back to see me next week

The next week, the lady goes back. Doctor, she says, I don't know what the hell you gave me, but now my farts, although still silent, stink terribly.

The doctor says, Good Now that we've cleared up your sinuses, let's work on your hearing.

...............a-bing-and-a-boom.....................
