Smart Key - Getting Tougher to Remove

'99 E320 with 53K miles.... over the last few months the Smart key has become more and more difficult to remove from the ignition switch. Using a new key has made no difference.

Is a new switch required?

Sounds to me like the release cable from the brake pedal needs adjusting, I have seen one 210 with a broken arm off the brake pedal.

I don’t know if my problem would be related but I find that when the temp rises outside like 85 degrees plus its harder for me to remove my key, like I have to turn it to the run position and then back off hard to get the key out. I had the problem last summer, I didn’t have it through the winter and then had it again a couple weeks ago when the weather got warm for a week...but hasn’t happened since when the weather has been cooler? Is it not related at all or could the temp really be making something tighter?

Thanks,
Brad

Check the cable adjustment, this is the one the prevents you from removing the key until you release the brake pedal byway of not allowing the EIS to return to posistion 1.
