93 190E alternator wiring
Hi. I bought an alternator from Amazon to replace a dying one. the Bosch alternator I have has one B+ post which has a loop connector on it with a bolt holding it down. the only other connector is a ground wire. the alternator I bought has spade connectors on it,1 B+ and 1 D+. It said that this one was supposed to fit my car. Can I just cut off the loop connector and crimp a female spade connector on it and plug it on the B+ terminal and leave the D+ unconnected? I would also connect the ground wire. I read that there are 1 wire alternators but just wondered. Thanks!

Are you sure the other wire is a ground wire?
The thick B+ wire goes from alt to bat to provide charging. The thin D+ wire goes to the charging lamp / resistor then to the ignition switch ( it is on when the key is on. ) This is needed to make the alternator wake up at reasonable RPM. Single wire alts generally need reved up to get them started, I don't use them ever and doubt Bosch makes one. In any event, make sure the B+ spade you are trying to use is actually power out not a place to plug in an anti noise capacitor. You might have a bolt on terminal after all. Also, if you really need to adapt the wiring, make a jumper adapter rather than cutting off the ends. |

Thanks. I was wrong. When I got the alternator off the other wire was connected to D+ so after connecting both wires everything seems ok.
