Exclamation Warning: Nitto NT450 tires

I am posting this to warn others about a bad experience I have had with a set of Nitto NT450s on my 190E Sportline. The Sportline runs a very weird tire size, a 205/55-R15 and very few all seasons are offered anymore (but plenty of track or summer tires). Nitto and Kumho are the only manufacturers I have been able to find.

A little background on my history with the vehicle: I bought the car in December with 194,300 miles. It now has 195,500 miles. All four tires had been replaced at 186,000 miles at Discount Tire, using Nitto NT450 tires with a 45K mile warranty. The PO had a lot of suspension work done and also installed an adjustable rear camber arm to allow adjustment of the camber (common problem on Mercedes for the camber to get out of whack as the suspension ages and there is normally no adjustment) and had the car aligned. He did not drive the car hard and the engine really is not powerful enough to light the tires.

I first had issue with the passenger front tire, it was completely bald in the middle from what was likely over inflation. I replaced that with the spare, a Goodyear Eagle II (which is no longer available in 205/55-R15 unfortunately). I was then doing work on the rear suspension and noticed that the rear tires have very even wear but they are only about a millimeter from the wear bars. The is the same with the other front tire. Less than 10k miles and the tires are already worn out. There are no suspension issues that should have contributed to this.

I have noticed that these tires don't have spectacular feel or grip and are very noisy as well. I checked around on other forums and the consensus has been the same as mine: stay away. The Nittos look cool but perform poorly and cost too much. If I were the person who bought the tires, I would try to warranty them but as I am not, I am going to try the Kumhos next.

I checked "Tire Rack" They offer Dunlop, Yokohama and Kumho in your size. I then checked "Discount Tire Direct: (America's Tire) and they offer Yokohama, Kumho and Nitto in your size. I've always had good luck with Yokohama.

The Dunlop and Yokohama are probably good but they are summer tires with no warranty, meaning I'd likely get 15k out of them because they are so soft. I prefer all seasons, especially in Atlanta with our crappy roads and large amounts of rain.

The Kumho offers 40K or 6 years. Why don't you look into moving up a wheel size or two. That might open up new selections for you.
