722.3 / .5 to 722.6 output flange interchange?
Does anyone know if: An output flange from a 722.3 / 722.5 will fit a 96 up 722.6?
My goal is to fit a Ford drive shaft into something I'm planning on building. Ford drive shafts have a 4 bolt flat face making it an easy project if a 4 bolt MB trans flange is used. Near as I can tell, the 722.6 had only 3 bolt flanges in the 100 mm ( 97 SL320 / E320 / C280 ) and 110 mm ( later big motor cars / Chrysler ) bolt circle. 722.3 V8 cars had 4 110 mm bolt flanges, 722.3 / 722.5 small motor cars had 3 bolt 100 mm flanges. As a follow up, got a hold of a 722.6 to take apart.
The 722.3 / 722.5 flange won't fit a 96 up 722.6 The 722.3 / .5 shaft is smaller in diameter. |

M120 engines with a 722.6 have a four bolt flange.

More info
Sprinters have a 4 wing or a round flange. The round flange has 8 holes but it looks like only 4 are used at any time. Both are deep in length and the trans output shaft pilot looks to be longer. The round one has a counter bore for centering so this looks to be the best one for a u joint conversion using a Ford 4 bolt u joint flange. |
