2009 E320 Bluetec - ESP Malfunction Msg
Input needed.
My MFD has begun lighting up with an "ESP Malfunction Visit Workshop" message and the yellow ESP warning light. Happens a few times a week. Is typically off the next time the car is started. Wondering if its voltage related? Seems to trip a few minutes after cold starts when GP's and heated seats are drawing extra current. No CEL ever. My scanner doesn't read enhanced MB codes. When I set it to read Chrysler enhanced transmission DTC's it pulls up "U1408 - Implausible brake signal". I cant find that code listed for MB? Searching Chrysler codes, it seems to indicate brake and throttle activated at same time, or possibly a steering sensor issue.

If you don't have access to something to read the codes the cheapest and easiest thing to do is inspect all the wheel speed sensors and insure they are intact, after that it is a guessing game.

I am dealing with the same issue. Usually caused by steering angle sensor or low battery voltage per my research.

Is your scanner pulling up a MB code when ESP is InOp? I've tired turning the steering wheel lock to lock to reset the steering sensor which is what used to be needed with the W210, don't know if that's applicable to the W211's. Did make the light go off once.

Terry, and all,
I'm going to jump in here (while I've got the talented and experienced braintrust present on-thread) and ask about my '99 E300's throwing: BAS very often now on it's indicator screen. My Brother now owns the car and hasn't taken it to his indie, but was wondering about it. He read the manual, and it said to turn the steering wheel lock to lock to clear it - which seems to work. What else to fix/clear it going on with the W210 '99 E300? Thanks for any input! |

This isn't rocket science, have the codes read and then replace what's broken.
It's easier to shoot yourself in the head than to try and fix this kind of problem without the proper tools.

I suspect it would be something like that, or wheel sensors.
