'98 W210: need to reset SRS light
Guys, any tricks to reset the SRS light on a 1998 E300D? It won't pass inspection here in Massachusetts with the light illuminated. I've corrected the fault so it shouldn't be a big deal to clear it.
Anyone in eastern MA have a reset tool? Thx.

Read/erase code so need a diagnostic scanner which will interact with MB SRS, so probably a dealer or if there is an indy Euro shop around can probably handle it. Any idea why it's on? If there is a current fault it will come right back, very possibly a seatbelt buckle switch, unless you know you did something to set a code.
EDIT sorry just read you had a fault and corrected it

Gilly, thanks for you note. I was fixing the turn stalk signal on this car and wanted to verify things were not scraping (when the wheel was turned) before I put the air bag back in place. I turned the key on so I could turn the steering wheel and the bag was not installed.

Yeah, that'll do it. Would be nice if the light would just go off after everything is corrected, but they are finnicky about the airbag, liability and so forth, so yeah you need to get the code cleared, don't bother doing all the stuff people tell you will clear the code, "resistance is futile", hopefully you find someone who will do this for you. You didn't hear it from me but if this car only has a warning light (no message in odometer area) you could yank the bulb out just for the test. I don't know if they would catch it not coming on with the key switched to "on" or not. If you have to take it to the same inspector he probably would.

As an aside i wish that states would have to do at least a little testing of cars. Around here there are no inspections at all and you just wonder about some of the junk out there that really should be in the junkyard, rusted to death and just today saw a car missing a front fender and the hood, just ridiculous.

Yup no inspections in SC either. Saw a hoodless car the other day.

I got the same problem...Nothing comes up in the malfunction center and my $20 scanner will not clear it. Mine came on a few days after I had the TCM and conductor plate replaced in my tranny. Sucks having a light on. I dont know what its like to drive one without some sort of warning light a glow...Even our nearly "new" 2002 has a light bulb out warning on.. geez
