ATF D/M for W124?

I went to a Mercedes dealer today to buy ATF fluid for my car. So I told him I have a 1987 260E and he gave me two jugs of Mobil ATF D/M. I told him my car uses Dextron III but he says this is what Mercedes uses now as its better than Dextron3. Anyway I paid for the stuffs but feel reluctant to use it as nowhere on the bottle does it says Dextron3. Am I right to be worried? Anyone here still have an older w124? What do you use?

No problem at all. As a matter of fact you could have gotten the same stuff from Advance Auto or one of those places.

My opinion (and that of mercedesdismantlers of california who have done more MB transmissions than we have pooping)...Take it back and get standard Dex III...brand is not really an issue. Just change fluid and filter every 25k and that's about it.

Plus, I bet you paid insane $$$ for that Mobil1.
$3/qt at Walleyworld.

They don't have any Dex III, that's the problem. The only thing they have is the "Mobile Super ATF D/M", which they sold me. It's $23.99/5LiterJug, and I bought two because a complete flush requires 7.5L or so. Anyway the attached image is the exact item bought.

Your local walmart does not sell Valvoline Dex III or Maxlife Dex III? I believe here we have 4 different variants. Walmart brand, 2 Valvolines and one more...

Did some googling and it does say the stuffs can be used in place of Dexron IIIH, is this same as Dexron III ? See this link under section "Specifications and Approval"

IOCAENCVLMOMobil Super ATF DM pdf free ebook download from www.imperialoil.com

Further googling of Dexron IIIH shows this illustration. I guess Dexron IIIH is the improved Dexron III.

tractor supply co. home brand ATF DX3 for me - $25 for 2 gallon jug. Works nice on my 120,000 mile 722.435 in my W124 E300D.

I went and had the indy put in the Mobile D/M today. Probably safe enough, at least safer than the Canadian Tires Motormaster junk that I had in there before. Knock on woods!
