90 300E Transmission Leaking

Hey guys. I recently had my transmission serviced (filter, gasket & fluid). The gasket was a Mercedes part and the pan was supposedly torqued to MB specs. The trans shifted well as I drove the car home (approx. 5 miles) and then I parked it overnight. I was heading out today and when I put it in Drive, I immediately noticed a "flaring". I put it in reverse, backed up and parked it. I then noticed a fresh stain/puddle of tranny fluid. I spoke with the shop owner and he wants me to have it towed to his place on Monday morning. The service was done by a master tech (but not a MB guy) with 30 yrs. experience. Any suggestions (other than the obvious) as to why this may have happened? Do the tranny bolts need to be re-torqued after it has been warmed up and driven? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance...

How much fluid leaked out? Was the torque converter drained too? If not, probably over filled and fluid is coming out. If the pan was not torqued correctly thee may be leakage from gasket gap. If pan was torqued too much, gasket split and pan is warped causing leakage. Flaring could be from the loss of fluid or too much fluid (creating foam I think). Maybe someone else can chime in and offer some advice.

Thanks for the reply. I have no way of knowing how much fluid drained out, but it is a considerable amount. I suspect that the problem may have come from the tech over-tightening the pan bolts. I will take a look at the pan myself on Monday...

Warm car up to ambient temp, keep it in park, check the transmission fluid level. If its low, you should add fluid to bring it back up, that should help with flare....if it was low.

Well... I know it's low. It's all over the driveway. I won't be driving it as it will go on a rollback Monday morning for the trip back to the shop.

Find out if they drained the torque converter when they did the service. If not mention to the tech that it has a torque converter drain plug too.

What would that affect if the torque converter wasn't drained? Potential overfill?

The torque converter holds over half of what you can get out of one.

Be thankful your car has a torque converter drain plug. There were a few years in there that MB did not install one.
