fuel pressure regulator cross reference part number (1992 400E)
I believe I need to replace the fuel pressure regulator on the new to me 400E - it shows the same symptoms others note - initial starting is fine but when warm it will be difficult to start then stall, after a few minutes no driving issues at all. Anyway, my question is about cross referencing part numbers.
According to EPC the part number is A 000 078 18 89 From Fastlane and others I also get W0133-1609558 (Bosch) I also found a cross reference of 0000781889 to Bosch 0280160587 A search on the Bosch part number gives by far the lowest price. Does anyone know if the cross reference is correct? Thanks Paul |

You mean accumulator? Pressure regulator doesn't affect warm starts.

No I mean regulator (the part numbers I listed), located on the back of the fuel distribution rail that wraps around the top of the engine - held in place by a circlip/snap ring. There are a bunch of posts indicating this can be the cause of problems at warm start issue. I do have a full parts car, which did not exhibit this symptom when last it ran - I can easily swap the regulator. I believe on the 400E any accumulator is part of the fuel pump.
So original question still stands - anyone know about cross referencing part numbers? Prices for Bosch seem to vary from ~40 to 100+ if they all map to the same Bosch part I'll buy the cheap one. paul |

The Mercedes number 000-078-18-89 is the same as Bosch number 0 280 160 587

Thanks mbdoc,
I pulled the part from the parts car and it does seem that there has been a running change at some point - parts car regulator has Old MB number 0000781489 (new number listed above 000 078 18 89) Old Bosch number 0280160512 (new number listed above 0 280 160 587) Not at all uncommon for updates to parts to occur. If you search on those they bump you to the newer part. Guessing from the pictures they changed some of the materials, the old one was metal where both the O rings are, the new pictures show blue (one would assume plastic) at the larger dia O ring).
