hello

i have a 87 mod w126 300se. i now have got a hold on a 93 mod m104 300 complete engine, as i have read they both share the same block but thas just about it. i wondred if i could fit the m104 in my car with the ignition system thats allready in the car? or do i have to change the whole wiring system in my car before the engine eventually will start?

thanks for answeres and sorry for my bad english

Everyone wants to know if it will "fit". Undoubtedly it will fit, but the question is whether you can get it to work, at a reasonable cost. A "93 104 300" could be a CIS engine (300SL), an LH engine (300SE) or an HFM engine (300E). You'd be in the best shape if it was a CIS engine but it would still be a big project that would require transferring many components from the donor car and considerable experimentation and trailblazing. If you are not capable of tackling it yourself I would get a shop to quote a fixed price for the project, which many shops would not do.

To go M103 to M104 it will fit fine, but you will need ALL wiring and computers and sensors from the other car.

Not a project I'd ever want to deal with. I like the M103 better anyways.

The W124 chassis had both engines fitted. The W126 chassis had just the single cam fitted.

Given that the fuel and ignition systems have virtually nothing in common, you'd need both W124 cars side by side to make this project even remotely cost effective.

Since the W126 has none of this interchange available as a factory model, you're going into unexplored territory. I've made these one of a kind swaps before, and let me tell you, it ain't pretty.

This is something that needs the three T's: Time, Tools, and Talent.
If you don't have all three, don't even start this kind of project.

I say go for it! Just strip everything from the donor car... mock it up off car then install away!!! Before I stripped everything from my submerged w140 I would never consider such a project... but now that i've disassembled the entire car... I can see that it's really not that complicated... A LOT of wires, yes... the key is tracing everything and that's EASY once the entire car is stripped. easier said than done?... maybe... but DOABLE. prep is key.

Check out the forum 190 Revolution, the modification section. This swap has been done a lot with much information there.
