190 Hood insulation

Hi,
I'm new to this forum... looks pretty good, and I've turned up some interesting stuff using the search.

My 1986 190E 2.0 (I'm in England) is *noisy* - you could never miss the engine in there. I read about hood insulation on the 200-300E being much smaller on the Euros and big on the US models.. so I too a look at my hood/bonnet... and yes, I've got the small bit towards the rear.

Is the large insulation pad available for the 190E ? Will it fit my 1986 2.0? Providing I can do this, which I'm keen to, I don't suppose anyone knows a source in the UK for them if they're non-mercedes original over here?

thanks

Russ

It is available...I just don't know the part number for it to give you. Someone here from the UK tried to get it at thedealer and they gave him problems. Try the partshop at the top of the page. Not sure as to the shipping cost to the UK. Maybe someone will post the part number and you can try the dealer.

Hood pad

The larger hood pad will fit your model.
Good news for you...

Some places where you can get the pad.
Could try the above store (i.e. Fast lane), but I do not know if they will deliver to UK.

There is one particular place where I get most of my parts because they are the cheapest. Their name is the Benz Bin. Their phone is 888-628-3247 or fax them at 609-392-9922. They will ship to the UK. You don't need the part number. You can talk to the guy over the phone. He will give you the part number. Be sure to order OEM equipment. It does make a difference.

Good luck!!!

Neat!

I occasionally work at my dad's garage... I'll see what I can turn up by calling around the suppliers. German and Swedish car parts *may* have something, I'll let you know

thanks & later

Well, this was my first ever thread, and I ended it by saying I'll let you know. So here you go 4 years later!

I replaced the bonnet (hood) padding with the full size one from a diesel model, which was larger. It came straight from Mercedes. I think there were 2 available and I went with the earlier one. It was fairly cheap at around £20-30. It's still on there perfectly and looks good. Unforunately the engine is still noisy compared to modern cars, I'm not sure if it really made a difference or not.

Case finally closed!

Be sure your under engine sound encapsulation panel is in place.

That's new to me.... what's that? All I can think of is the bit of plastic that separates the battery from the ECU/ABS computers and OVP etc (on a right hand drive car..).

Maybe US models are different from Euros -OR- I don't know what I'm talking about. One is as likely as the other...
