Unhappy Really dumb question/1991 190e 2.6

Battery died , I took it out and forgot what side is what. Need to know if the left side terminal wire in the battery compartment is the ground to the battery ? It is a short black wire that is secured to the body . The other black wire runs along the firewall and drops down by the driver side which I suspect is the positive. I bought a new battery and believe that the battery terminals are opposite of what they should be . I don't want to make another problem.
Thank you gentlemen (and ladies) css190e

You are correct. The ground cable is the short black wire secured to chassis.
