'99 E320 or '02 E320
I totalled my '96 E300D and need to replace it and am looking at the gassers. There's a '99 E320 w/75K on it and an '02 w/110K on it that I'm looking at today. Any thoughts on differences or pros and cons between the two?
Thanks in advance. Deuce

Not much difference, but as always the later the model in its production run, the more "refined".
The 02 has many different body panels & a much improved auto trans.

'02 would be 'face-lift' model of W210. As mentioned different front bumper also nav system, controls on steering wheel, side air bags in back when compared to '99. Depending on where you live a 4Matic might be preferable.
AFAIK, both used the 722.6 5 speed electronic transmission. 722.9 7 speed was first offered with the '03 W211 IMHO, when it comes to purchasing an used car it's all about it's condition, level of maintenance and asking price. Which car was best when they were new is pretty much irrelevant now. Service records with no gaps are a plus. Lack of them is a red flag. As a previous MB owner I'm sure you know about the brand but almost everyone is better off getting a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified MB mechanic. Good luck. |

Purchased!
Thanks to you both for your input. I ended up buying a 2002 E320 with 111K on it. Only needs a coupld of mechanical fixes, some new tires and a good detailing job but I think I'm really going to like it. Hopefully it won't take too long to get used to the feel and querks of a gas engine having been a diesel owner for the last 10 years.
Thanks again!
