Help with 190E Wiper Malfunction
I just picked up a decent 1989 190E 2.6 for my daughter.
1 owner, only 75K. It's in great shape but the wipers stopped working. They worked fine when I first tested them, smooth and quiet, all speeds. Washers worked too. Days later my kid calls me and says the wiper wouldn't come on. Calls back and says she nudged the arm and they started working again. I tried them since, worked fine, still very quiet and smooth. Fast forward to the rain we just had and they wouldn't work at all again. Now, before I get the car to work on this weekend I was hoping for some info someone might provide. I did stop by for a quick test and observed that the washers don't work either. I'm assuming that they should still squirt even if the wiper motor was bad. So I'm inclined to suspect the fuse/relay or the combination switch. (1) Am I correct that the washers should work independently of the wiper (if it's just the motor thats at fault and not the fuse/relay)? (2) Also, I was hoping for a wiring diagram or just some insight on which pins on the wiper motor supply the juice so I can jumper it if the fuse/relay checks out okay. I'll open the relay and inspect it for cracked solder joints and I'll replace the fuse & clean the contacts. If they check okay and the motor works when jumped, then obviously the combo switch is suspect. But I'd like to be prepared with the answers to 1 & 2 before I start. Anything I might be missing? Thanks for any help! |

As you were thinking, start at the fuse fox.
Fuse # 20 is the place to start
