W124 w/power steering leak

Been looking for a different W124 for a while, and found, one that cosmetically, is perfect. Its a 1992 300E w/only 108K!

Head gasket done last year, lady has all records, clean car fax. Price is good, but concerned about one thing. It has a small power steering leak. Girl asked a mechanic, supposedly it's because of a "reverse hose" or something.

Girl seems pretty genuine, told me w/o me even asking about problems, pretty honest.

Overall, does anyone have experience with power steering leaks in w124's? If so, familiar with this "reverse hose", and how easy is it to fix? Hours labor, cost of part, etc.

If you were buying this car, any suggestions as far as the power steering, things to look for?

Thanks!

If I buy it, will post pictures! The white paint is original & looks brand new! Want to put in smoked euro headlights, tailights, and black mercedes rims!

Would be a site!

Steele, have a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) done by a MB-trained tech who knows that vintage MB automobile so you're aware of any major repairs that are pending. The power steering problem is likely not a big deal, but better to be safe than sorry. Very few owners are of properly maintained MB automobiles are selling them. Why is this 1992 300E for sale?

Mine's been leaking for years. Either $1200 to fix at shop, or a $4.99 bottle of Prestone stop leak/PS fluid. Works wonders

There is a high presure line and a low pressure return line.

Usually the return line(2 pieces) is the ones that leaks. It's sold by the meter at the dealership and a liter of fluid. Not a big deal. You don't need a new $1200 pump unless you run the thing dry.
The front seals go bad and o-rings in the pump. When the pump leaks, there is a kit(from the dealers also) about $15-45 depending on which pump model and manufacture. Takes about an hour off the car.

I had a major power steering fluid leak on my 94 E320 years ago. The fix was easy because it was caused by a bad shaft seal in the power steering gear. A two hour job of disconnecting hoses, removing the power steering gear and replacing the seal. The bad side is that the fluid leak destroyed the rubber of the control arm bushings directly underneath the steering gear, and I had to replace those also.
Recently I replaced all the PS hoses and the seals in the PS Pump, another easy job. No more PS leaks.
In my opinion Power Steering leaks are not something that should prevent you from buying an MB.
