Anyone near Bridgeview, IL want to look at a 1996 C140 S500C for me?

Hey guys. Are there any of you who are near Bridgeview, IL that can look at a C140 for me?

It looks like it's about a half hour from Chicago.

It's a 96 one owner S500 Coupe that looks like it's in fantastic condition. It has 78k miles on it.

Now I know W140s are expensive to fix but I am a big DIY other than major removals like the headgasket, engine/tranny removal, subframe removal etc, and I'm coming from a C124 94 E320 Coupe so I am aware of a German's running costs.

I also know to stay away from early W140s but how are the 96s?

Anything I should look out for?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Also, if you are willing, if someone could recommend me a good independent shop that can conduct a PPI, and then take the car there? I will cover the cost of the inspection and include a meal for your time.

I agree about the electronics, but the S500 has the M119.

My Uncle has a 1994 S420 sedan; He hasn't had a problem other than having the vacuum pods for the auto-doors changed out.

I'd also like to say that the S-Klasse's running costs will be much higher than an E-Klasse. It's just so much more sophisticated a machine.

I think that of that vintage, you need to change the wiring harness as it biodegrades, but I'm no W140 expert.
