Hey Everyone,
I'm buying this C43 and noticed some things that don't exactly look right and wanted to run it past some of you guys...

Here is a picture of a REAL M113 in a C43 AMG....

Here is a picture of the engine in the C43 I am buying...

First off, yes it has the wrong coolant. I'm going to change that ASAP. However, I see 3 other possible concerning issues.

1. Notice the oil filler cap. What is with the weird looking extension? I've never seen this on a C43. Is this correct for the engine that originally came with the C43?

2. It appears that this engine has no oil intercooler. It may just be an optical illusion but it appears to not have one like other C43's I've seen.

3. The left valve cover has some yellow numbering on it, typical of parts you see sold from a junkyard. Am I just paranoid or could this be bad news?

In the car's defense. Carfax checks out great. It says it was rear ended but no paint work needed, just a bumper. The interior is mint and they say it runs and shifts great.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

Yeah, it looks like its missing the oil cooler... Looks like the wrong motor for the car. Those numbers on the head make me think its had a (new) motor installed.

Check the casting numbers on the engine. Thinking someone swapped a 5.0 into it.

Yep, 5.0 would not necessarily be a deal breaker but definitely a point of hard negotiation. Quite concerning either way. Do you happen to know where the engine number can be found on the M113? I have no clue.

I dont know the location of the casting number, but can find out from a friend in the morning. I am thinking around the top of the bellhousing like other MB engines.

A 5.0 would be an interesting swap, as in stock, non agressive ECU map, it has like 40 more torques, and about the same HP.... Not to mention lower compression than the 5.4, making for a perfect candidate for forced induction!

(I have been thinking of picking up a C43 and frankensteining something...

)

I'm thinking it's all good so long as that's not just another run of mill J.Y. 4.3 simply tossed in there by an operator who's just trying to flip the car. A 5.0 is cool, a 5.5 is cool, a run of the mill J.Y. 4.3 is not cool. I wouldn't be looking for the M.B. numbers just to confirm it's a 4.3 but rather the AMG numbers which I'm sure are there somewhere if that's one of the genuine AMG breathed upon 4.3s.

Well, if its a C43, it should be an M113.944. Any other variants of the M113.xxx is a giveaway that its been swapped.

A friend thats got a C43 said the only real (he knows of) between the 430 and 43 is a hotter set of cams, different valves, and valve springs. Cannot confirm this, but thats what I have been told.

Yeah, it's an M113.940 4.3L not the M113.944. I'm not going to flame the dealer because I'm not sure if they tried to fraud me, it may be an honest mistake. I told them to mark it as having the incorrect engine. Legally they are supposed to. I will post the VIN number so if anyone searches they will see that the car has the wrong engine.

Eeeeek! The C32 has a great powerplant, but being an early W203, the interior is plastic fantastic, and cheap! My friends got a C32, and when you hit a bump, all the airvents like to drop and point downward. He had a problem with the seat modules draining the battery, and then theres the problem on early 203s where the front tires dont exactly line up with the fenders.... Not to mention the terrible fuel mileage!

Looks like its an E430 motor, not even a 5.0... :/

Shame, as a 5.0 would have been an interesting swap!

BTW - If you do wind up picking up the car, I have a friend that did a 5.4 swap into his C43, and has the stock M113 4.3 AMG motor for sale.
