Noisy fuel pump
Lately I've noticed that my fuel pump is making a loud noise. Louder and higher pitched than the normal whine.
Also, I noticed the oil smells a bit like gas, which I understand may be a rich setting. Could this be the fuel pump or is it something like the o2 sensor? Thanks

A noisy fuel pump is usually screaming 'change me before I die'.

i totally agree,my stock pumps were so quiet you could not here them, you better replace it asap before you find yourself broke down,i replaced mine wth aftermarket higflow brand pumps, there a little noisy, due to the higer volume,160 lph.

Oddly, it doesn't always make noise. In fact I have noticed either on hot days or on longer drives it makes noise
Is it dangerous to drive like this? ie, can I lean out and ping? Or is it just a complete failure and I will stall?

According to Murphy's Law, The fuel pump will break down far away from home, up a mountain and on the other side of the island, just when you need the car the most.
Better to change the pump. If you have a M103 engined car you will have two pumps. |

It's an M111.960 engine (2.2L 4 cyl DOHC)
The car is rarely driven, I think it accumulated 1,000 miles in about a year or more, but I guess better safe than sorry

confucious says it is wise to find a nice new pump on ebay, there is a good website www.onlyfuelpumps.com ,they have affordable pumps with a unconditional 1 yr warranty.you really should replace it,if i was a betting man id say its just about to give out.spend the $80.00 on a new pump. like nike says "JUST DO IT"

I will replace it soon then.
Just wondering whether to buy from Mercedes or try to save some money and buy elsewhere

Of course, it goes without saying.
Where is the fuel filter btw? My other car was in the engine bay, but I've seen some Mercs have it under the car at the rear? Also, which pump should I buy? I've seen there are 3 bar, 5 bar, 6 bar etc all for my car?
