1991 Mercedes 300 SE 6 cylinder gas

On this car (126 model) where is the engine temperature sensor located? It is a single pole and 1 wire clip on and powers the dash engine temp guage. Cant find sensor to replace it.

Yeah, and it's a 4 pin sensor with dual elements. The car can get very hard to start and get terrible mileage if that sensor goes south.

This is the four pole sensor for engine managment

The single pole sensor which controls the temp gauge in the cluster is immediately in front of this four pole.

I have the replacement sensor for the engine temperature and it is one terminal for a wire and it runs the dash temp gauge. It is not 4 pronged. Where is this sensor located?

As mentioned in previous post. Single pole sensor is located in front of 4 pole. see below.

Before you bite in and replace it, be aware of two things-

1) The valve cover sometimes has to be removed to allow the socket to fit over the sensor. This varies by socket thickness and from motor to motor.
2) If you do have to remove the valve cover, be aware that M103 valve covers often don't seal back up very well without replacing the gasket, and even sometimes if you do.

Also, have the new one ready to go in and the pressure released from the cooling system to minimize any coolant loss.
