Does a w201 have 2 fuel pumps???

I just got under the rear of my 1989 190E to change the fuel pump but for some reason there are two. Correct if I'm wrong because I do not know why there should be two or how to test which one is bad.

I have located the accumulator, filter and pump but there is an additional pump.

Yes there are two pumps, they work in tandem. If one dies the car will not run.

Earlier cars (pre-88 I believe) had only one pump.

My sister's W201 and my W124 both have two pumps.

Some symptoms of a fuel pump on the way out.

Noisy buzz from pump.

Intermittent fuel starvation - indicated by engine miss or stalling.

Low power.

The fuel system should be pressure tested to diagnose these problems.

If there is a slight leak at the fuel pump area then air could be getting into the system causing low power or rough idling.

Thank you guys for your help. I am going to purchase another pump so I change both at the same time.

Does anyone know why Mercedes made the change from 1 to 2 fuel pumps???
I have been trying to think of some logical reason for the design but I am drawing a blank.

Just wondering...

KE is critical for correct running on fuel pressure. Two be sure, two be sure.

While you are spending cash make sure you get a new filter. (there's another filter at the entrance to the fuel distributor make sure you change that as well).
