Was there a '92 300CE Sportline?
There's a small used car dealer that has a '92 300CE for sale. It says Sportline on the sides just behind the front wheels as well as on the shifter, but I've never heard of a Sportline option for the 300CE. The dealer claims it's one of only 300 made that year. Is any of this true or did someone just put some Sportline badging on a standard 300CE?

There were many W124 Sportlines made.
Our workshop recently changed over an engine in a W124 CE 300. 24valve model. Have had trouble sourcing the correct ECU for it. Car has been idle for three months. Here's one for sale in Australia http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/MERCEDES/300_CE-24/details.aspx?R=7458156&keywords=sportline&PriceMax=100000&__N=1090+0+418+1216+834+285+257&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=20&__Dx=mode+matchany&PriceTo=418&Make=MERCEDES&__D=sportline&seot=1&silo=1003&__Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&__sid=125D1EE754D1&state_id=0&State=All%20States&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&distance=25&Cr=2&__Ntt=sportline&trecs=4 |

Ivanerrol, check with your local MB dealer or salvage yard for an ECU for a 300SL. I had the same experience obtaining an ECU for our daughter's 1991 300CE and she was without the car for months. Finally after discussing the situation with the owner of our local MB dealer the Parts Department Manager realized the ECU for the 300SL is the same part. Apparently the MB Parts System shows the 300CE ECU's as backordered and unavailable. The new ECU cost around $2,300.

![]() http://www.peachparts.com/sportline_suspension.htm Check the VIN here for "as built" options ![]() http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/index.html?lng=eng ******* I found this on a thread at the MBUSA site :http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=2418 posted by : Joe Caruso The Sportline option was offered in the U.S. on the 1992-1995 W124's. There were 48,590 vehicles sold here in those four model years (44,593 sedans and 3,997 coupes). If 5% is a reasonable "penetration rate" for Sportline, then less than 2,500 U.S. vehicles were so equipped. M. Hinrichs may want to e-mail the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center with his full VIN and request a "build sheet" for his vehicle with each option delineated. I have found the Classic Center to be incredibly responsive and helpful with these requests. He might also pose the "aggregate" Sportline question to them as well......we all might get lucky and find the answer! |

In 1992 US market, the Sportline option package was available on a W124 range in the 300E and 300CE Coupe. It was the first year of the Sportline option package in the US. There were a total of 1,846 CE Coupes sold that year, so assuming the 5% level suggested above, then there would possible be less than 93 Sportline equiped CE that year.
