Where is the evap on 124 compared to 201?
So I have established there is NO maintenance hole like on the 201 shown above. I can't seem to get a good grasp on actually WHERE the evaporator is on the w124. Is it in the same place on the w124 as the 201? <-- This is my main question!! What I am proposing is heading to the junkyard and hacking away at the same place to test to see if I can "make my own" maintenance hole. I would love to do a 1hour blower motor removal job than a 8+ hour fiddly-as-hell job. Has anybody ever thought about this?

the w124 evap is in the same spot as the w201. smack dab in the middle. but the evap has its own "air box" where all the air flow gets directed. the only true and tested way of getting to the evaporator on a w124 is by removing the dashboard.
you can replace a blower motor on about 45 minutes (with everything put together) on a w124.

So there is no air box on the 201?

So the evap can be replaced on a 201 from the engine compartment? Or can it only be accessed for cleaning...
I just replaced the blower motor on my sister's 190E a couple weeks ago, not too bad of a job. Probably harder than the W124 since there is less room.

Hmm...well I guess I can give it a shot at the junkyard since I now know its in the same place...tear it apart and get a grasp if its feasibly possible. If the air box makes it impossible, then I'm out 45mins of my time and now know how to remove a blower motor

If you do manage to figure out an easy way in, post lots of pictures!
I'm certainly interested, albeit for something minor - cleaning the fins. I'll be watching this

W124 Evaporator R+R
See reply #4 to your "Other" post about W124 Evaporator R+R feasibility.
BUT,maybe with a SawsAll you can get it out through the Engine compartment ? HINT: Look over just to the right of the Brake Booster (Between the Two firewalls) You'll see the Expansion Valve [Connected to the Evaporator's Pipes] It is POSSIBLE to R+R the Expansion Valve by itself (BUT it's a WITCH!) There's a guy at an independent shop in Broward county on a 'Net Video and it takes him 10+ hours to R+R the EVAP.(and he's done a couple of hundred) Nate, GSXR has pictures of one of his W124s with the Blower fan removed and he's sprayed "No Rinse" Condensor/Evaporator cleaner on his Evaporator fins. (It just drains out the two tubes at the bottom of the Evaporator Case.) http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/

W124
USAYON,
The OP (Original Poster) is working on one of his W124s. [My "Tongue in Cheek' comment to him about using a Saws-all to remove the Evaporator through the Engine compartment was an attempt to save him an Onerous effort.'Better to devote his attentions to removing the Dash.] I'll refer you to reply #2 of this very post:
