The encapsulation shield is missing from underneath the engine on my 300CE. Is it okay if I don't replace it? It appears that it would get in the way for basic service such as oil changes and jacking up the car. Does it really have a purpose?

I know for sure it helps streamline, but I also heard it helps cool the transmission a tad better due to its design. Neither of mine had one when I bought them and I have never ran into any problems, but if I managed to get one cheap, I'd put it back on.
