190e Rocker Panel Skins?
I had a Peugeot 504 years ago and was able to buy Rocker Panel skins to cover its decaying panels. They were cheap and from Asia.
Does any one know where I can get a set for my 86 190e daily driver? I could fiberglass over the panels but would prefer the metal skins. Since the 190s are plentiful and throughout the world, there should be some source. I've searched the Internet for MB 190 skins and have not been able to find anything. Like I said in my other posts, try http://www.shermanparts.com/. Looks like rocker panels for your car are $45.99 there. I have purchased body panels for my W114 from them in the past and had nothing but good experiences.

Thanks for the hot tip gmercoleza -- The panels are cheap enough and will make the repair easier

You're going to weld it in rather than bolt it, right?
This is a structural part on a unibody car. It's got to be welded in place. -CTH |

Or do what I did - just cut or grind all the rust away, seal it, and put the new panel right over the old one. That is how they are designed to be used - they are not "full" replacement panels, just skins. I actually riveted mine in place and ground/filled the seams before repainting. Held up several years. But I did this on a daily driver, not a show car.
Still - it was 1000 percent better!

Structurally the car is in good shape. I did a little fiberglassing on the floor where the factory undercoating trapped water and road salt, and then resprayed the patched areas with truck bed liner. The rocker panels are rusty around the jack holes. I'll use the wirewheel on my grinder and clean up the area where the skins will be touching, and rivet or wirefeed them on. I'll spray them with with bed liner coating then spray paint them black or silver.
The car was from Chicago. I bought it for $900.00 and travels on the Wisconsin salted roads in the winter. With only 93k on the clock and patching the rough spots in the rocker panels, I should get many years of service out of the car. I have a 86 project car with 5 speed that has no road rot, and will use this daily driver for parts when it gets too rough. Benz Sage |
