1992 190E 2.3 8v problems...
hey guys. just recently bought a 190e as my first car and sadly this car has caused me quite some stress.
in the 2 weeks ive owned it i have had replaced or fixed -transmission mounts -transmission fluid/filter -coolant overflow tank -ac recharge -door lock actuator and NOW i just got the bad news that i will need a valve job. gunna cost me about $1700 (including the trans service and the coolant tank) my question is after having major engine work like that is it likely i wont have too many more problems in the future? (such as a headgasket) |

Did they tell you what the compression numbers were? How is the oil consumption? Was a leakdown test done?

they said one cylinder was at 60 instead of 120.
and i have not noticed any oil consumption since i got the car. no leaking on the driveway or into the other systems on the car. |

On a 17-18 year old car....you will spend $$ all of the time.
$400-$500 a month for new car payments OR $100-200 a month for old car repairs.

I have first hand experience with this!
My 1991 S124 have caused me so much frustration, so many heavy bills, so many hours of work, so much research and so much pain. BUT, all the hard work makes an unbeatable relationship between the car and it's trustful owner. My car is getting better and better, and I love it more and more. I smile every time I see it, I have a good time every time I'm driving it. It's defenately worth all the pain. E Last edited by Espen W; 08-05-2009 at 04:28 PM. Reason: Spelling |

Update... again
alright i thought i would just update this for the heck of it. maybe someone can get some usefull information out of it
so, after nearly 3 long weeks of my mercedes being in the shop, i still dont have it sitting in my driveway... we found that the head was cracked... so we needed to buy a used head. so today i went to pick it up and after i was overwhelmed with excitement i was visited by my good ole friend disappointment. my mechanic walked me back to the garage where my car sat (hood still up and air filter assembly still off) and told me to go start it up and rev it. cars running very lean and wants to stall out on when you give it gas. other than that it runs smooth like a new car!! once you get going the engine is fine but when you first start off it very sluggishly accelerates. so my mechanic said if you care to wait you can... im just gunna troubleshoot what could be causing this issue. 1 hour later... we find that the cable for the engine temp. sender had frayed wires and in the process of dismantling the head, the frayed wires touched and shorted it out. good news is i dont have to pay for the new sender... my mechanic said it was his fault and we have paid too much money already. and he said hes sick of seeing the damn thing. xD so HOPEFULLY i will be getting this bloody car back on monday... it never ends....... ![]() |
