E420 ABS Pump Quirk - W124
Here's a quick question for everyone. Upon starting my car, after putting it into gear (D or R) and after rolling about 5 feet, the ABS pump buzzes for about a half a second and then goes away (without touching the brake pedal). It sounds (and feels) like the pump is having problems with its initial 'self-test' upon starting the car (or so I've concluded following a little research). Whether the car is warm or cold. I could drive the car for an hour, stop it and start it within a minute and the same symptom will occur.
I thought maybe air in the brake system so I bled the brakes last night but I didn't come up with anything. Also ran the codes on pins 6 (ABS) and 19 (DM) and they both came up clean. Any advice on this one? |

If the ABS pump cycles one time when the car something like 6mph for the first time after starting, normal.

The ABS pump buzzes within the car's rolling just 10 - 20 feet (not enough to get up to even 5 or 6 mph)

Update...
My guess is that the rubber mounts on the pump are shot and that is contributing the the pump being louder than normal. Mounts are on their way so we'll give that a shot.
Ps. My brother has a '91 300D 2.5 Turbo and his pump doesn't activate like mine does upon start. When I have my hood open and I walk with the car as it rolls with my hand on the pump I can actually feel the pump activating for a second, with my brother's, I can't. Any insight into that irregularity? |

Try starting the car facing downhill, then put it in gear and roll with your foot on the brake, you should feel the pedal "burp".
