Plastic tranny pan? - 1993 2.8 300E

I am pulling the transmission on this vehicle and it looks like the trans pan is plastic - is it safe to put my transmission jack under it? If not, it doesn't look like I have enough room to get the jack under the housing...

Can't be. You need to put at least a one-by or 3/4 plywood between the jack and the pan.

OK - getting a little frustrated. Got a piece of plywood under my pan - everything disconnected, driveshaft out of the way, etc., but the transmission will not lower. Normally, the tranny comes down several inches in the rear as you lower the jack slowly - but not this one!

Any ideas?

I can just barely see the top 2 bolts so I might be able to get to them, but it would sure be a lot easier if I could drop this tranny a little. I can not see what it's getting hung up on...

I was able to get all the top bolts out anyway, without having to drop the transmission anymore. Everything is removed - driveshaft, dipstick tube, all connections EXCEPT for the throttle valve cable. The thing still doesn't want to drop, but I think I can get it out anyway.

New problem is that I can not separate the transmission from the engine - all bolts are out but the thing is STUCK!

Any suggestions?

Get it free from the pins and wiggle it off.

With the motor mounts in place for the transmission to drop the front of the engine has to tip up a bit. Maybe the fan is binding against the fan shroud.

Thanks for the responses. I checked the fan shroud - doesn't seem to be catching.

My bigger problem now is getting it to pull free...

Got it apart - and sometimes I'm just plain stupid! Left a very top bolt in...finally found it, removed it and tranny popped right off.

Anyway, it is lying on the floor still connected by one cable that runs down from the driver's side (has a small vacuum tube tied to it as well) and it goes into a yellow plastic contraption on the tranny. I can not figure out how to disconnect this cable. Any suggestions?
