300E Main Pulley out of Alignment. Why?
Hi:
It started slowly with a bit of noise behind my radiator. I figured that at 240000 miles the idle pulley was about to go. This morning on closer inspection I noticed the main pulley behind the fan blade was off center and scraping the hardware in front of the motor. Little metal shavings from the interior side of the pulley were flying up past the thermostat housing. Anyone had such a problem? Belt too tight from a previous AC repair? Pulley bolt(s) loose? Appreciate some help here. Thanks, Mike Brunswick, Ga. |

The fan rotaes on a device called a bearing bracket instead of the water pump which sits to the side. The bearing is going and the fix is to replace it and usually the pulley. You may have caught it in time to save the pulley.
